As soon as I saw that corset braid in 2026’s Wuthering Heights, I knew it was going to be my Halloween costume. I mean, how could I not at least attempt such a gorgeous hairstyle!?
In hindsight, I could have waited to cut my hair shorter until after Halloween to get a more film-accurate length, and that would have helped with the braiding, but I think I managed a pretty good job doing it all by myself!
Here’s a breakdown of how I achieved this romantic Halloween costume:
The Hair
The red corset braid is Margot Robbie’s most iconic hairstyle from the film, and I knew from the moment I saw those first set photos that it was the one I would attempt. I ordered some velvet red ribbon from Amazon and found a helpful video tutorial from Ang Wells that made it simple and not too daunting to attempt.
Her secret? Braiding two pigtails out in front, lacing the ribbon through in the corset style, and then flipping the braids back. This was so much easier than trying to braid and thread the ribbon from behind my head, where I’d be doing it blind. Thank you, Ang; I couldn’t have done this without you!
The Makeup
I kept the makeup pretty simple, opting for a dewy glow, flushed cheeks, and nourished lips. The movie makeup was very natural, but I was going out to West Hollywood, so we were going to wear some foundation and jazz it up a bit.
I wet a makeup sponge to get a more natural application of my Polite Society More Than A Pretty Face foundation, then applied copious amounts of my Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Matte Bouncy Blush in “Truth” across my cheeks and nose for a rosy face. I also used a bronzy powder blush from RMS Beauty to further enhance my face shape and provide some definition. Last, I used a shimmery cream highlighter and eyeshadow stick from ULTA Beauty Collection in shade “Golden Girl” to define my high points and eyes.
My eyes were subtle, with diffused brown eyeliner (I use the Sephora Collection 12 Hour Colorful Contour Pencil Eyeliner in “Tiramisu”) and a touch of matte brown eyeshadow from a Glossier palette that I believe has been discontinued. I added brown mascara (Urban Decay’s Tube Job Lash Augmenting Tubing Mascara in “Brunette Brown”), and then fluffed up my brows with my typical Maybelline Superfluff Volumizing Eyebrow Gel Mousse in “Blonde”.
For my lips, I started with the Clarins Lip Comfort Hydrating Oil in “Pitaya” to get a pink base tint, and then I applied the glossy Rouge Classy Lipstick from HERA Cosmetics for a pigmented but natural-looking lip.
The Outfit
The actual outfit was super easy, as I already had a great red corset dress in my closet! All I did was order a white billowing top from Amazon to give that romantic off-the-shoulder chemise look. I cut some more of the ribbon I ordered for my hair and tied a simple choker.
And there you have it! My cute, pretty last-minute Cathy Earnshaw outfit came together quite well! I loved the braid so much I might do it again just for a fun party look.
